Smart Dongle

The Smart Dongle is a USB (Universal Serial Bus) key with flash memory bundled with a standard UICC (Universal Integrated Circuit Card).

By inserting it into the PC’s USB port, the subscriber gains access to operator communications applications including Voice over IP and Instant Messaging, as well as an attractive range of web services such as music download and on-line storage.

The authentication is performed using the Smart Dongle UICC applications (ISIM, EAP-SIM) which are perfectly in tune with the existing network operator infrastructure. It ensures a higher security level than a simple login-password, while facilitating billing.

Smart Modem

Mobile operators are currently selling 3G modems that allow their customers to connect to internet in mobility.

However, there is little differentiation between all the offers on a given market so operators are having to fight on pricing.

With Gemalto’s Smart Modem, operators are able to promote their existing internet services, adding real value.

With its UpTeq Smart Modem solution, Gemalto provides a powerful solution for telecom operators to capitalize on the unique link they have with their customers, and to become the main shop window in the mobile internet.

With the Smart Modem, all the operators’ services are stored and launched automatically by the Smart Modem itself, including the connection manager. Moreover, all these applications stored in the device are managed using Smart Device Management Center.

Smart Device Management Center (SDMC)

SDMC provides a secure and simple means of accessing the full content of all devices embedding Gemalto Convergence technology over the internet (OTI). Using this facility, Gemalto manages the life-cycle of all devices, from data provisioning or activation, segmentation of the database and all administration and updates required to reflect the evolution of the operator PC services.

Plug and Play

Why using a dongle to provide applications that can be easily downloaded from the internet on user PC?

The download of application works well when the user uses his own PC. Our Smart Dongle solution allows to use any PC, making all application fully portable.
In addition, most of Operator expressed the cost of customer support when a software need to be installed.
Our promise is to avoid the installation of any software bricks avoiding the need to grant administration rights and avoid also to let traces or footprint on the hosting PC.

Authentication mechanism: EAP-SIM/EAP-AKA ;ISIM/GBAU

The Smart Dongle supports all UICC based authentication method making easy to adapt the client side of the solution to what already exists in the operator backend.
For 2G network : SIM and EAP-SIM authentication are supported
For 3G network : AKA, GBA-U and EAP-AKA are supported
For IMS network: GBA-U Digest AKA (through SIP) and EAP-AKA are supported.

Softphone: SIP and UMA Voice over IP

UMA Softphone

It is a 3GPP standard communication method, UMA provides a gateway between the mobile telephony and the Internet Protocol (IP) networks.
The UMA client (softphone) make the bridge between GPRS or GSM/UMTS data (primarily voice messages) to the UMA Network Controller (UNC) in the Telecom operator's core network.

SIP Softphone

This standardized protocol is used to establish, modify and terminate multimedia sessions over the IP network. It provide the means to transfer date (the SIP channel), and can be used to transfer any kind of data using any protocol.
A softphone that uses SIP technology can also provide enhanced security for communications by using ISIM authentication to authenticate subscribers—a far more secured method than a simple user name and password.
